WHO WE ARE

CHESMA, A.C.(una "Comunidad Hebrea En San Miguel de  Allende,  Asociación Civil") is an inter-/non-denominational Jewish community in San Miguel de Allende, in the state of Guanajuato, Mexico. We have about 120 members, mostly Jews from the US or Canada, but also a growing number of Mexicans who have converted to Judaism.

Our motto, "One community, many paths", reflects our diversity—in language, culture, and levels of observance. We invite each member to express his or her sense of being Jewish, be it secularly, religiously, culturally, intellectually, or artistically--join with us!

CHESMA, AC is our registered Mexican non-profit; it is an umbrella organization, not affiliated with any specific Jewish movement. We are a completely volunteer organization, whose board and lay leaders work pro bono to provide all aspects of programming.

Under this umbrella, the Traditional/Egalitarian Minyan Group, led principally by Dan Lessner and Carole Stone, is affiliated with the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism (the flagship of Conservative Judaism in NOrth America) and is now known as "Kehilla Shalom San Miguel de Allende". This entity is tax-exempt under US IRS law section 501(c)(3).

We are proud to announce that CHESMA, AC is now affiliated with the Comité Central de la Comunidad Judía de México.
