The Jewish community tended to be mostly older, retired Americans until a few years ago when the B’nei Anusim --literally, “Children of Those Who were Forced [to convert]”-- found us. Many of these young Mexicans have undergone formal conversion to Judaism, and circumcision ceremonies have graced our community.

Because of our newest members, our worship services and many of our other functions and are now presented in Hebrew, English and Spanish, which has attracted other Spanish-speaking Jews in the Bajío region. SSMA was recently blessed to host the circumcision of Moshe Baez Scharf, the first synagogue B’rit Milah in our community, performed by a mohel from México City.
